Did you know that February 4th is USO Day? USO Day celebrates the efforts of the United Service Organizations who have been supporting our service members since 1941 while they are deployed and at home. The mission statement of the USO is to “strengthen America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home, and country, throughout their service to the nation” (The organization). The USO has adapted over the years and currently has many programs to support troops and their families, including providing deployed service members with care packages with comforts of home, entertainment with celebrity tours, and free Wi-Fi centers to call loved ones back home. When a service member is transitioning out of the military, the USO is there to help them navigate civilian life by offering one-on-one support to develop clear plans and hosting workshops and networking events for service members and their spouses. The USO also understands the great sacrifice children and spouses of service members make. On top of connecting families to their deployed loved ones through phone calls and hosting spouse networking events, the USO strengthens communities by providing virtual and in-person programming, including baby showers, coffee connections, reading programs, and more. You can celebrate USO day and support our troops by visiting the USO’s website to learn more about the organization, donating, or signing up to be a volunteer.
If you need assistance that the USO can provide, the Colorado USO is located on Fort Carson at 6391 Wetzel Ave Bldg. 1524 Fort Carson CO 80913. The center is open from 10am-5pm during the week and 12-6pm on weekends and provides a relaxing lounge for soldiers and family members to play games and unwind.
You can support USO Colorado through their Tickets4Troops program. By donating tickets to local events like sports games, concerts, and plays, you give military members and their families an opportunity to connect with one another and decompress from the stress of their missions.
If you are travelling out of Denver, be sure to stop by the Denver International Airport USO Center. The center is open from 7am-7pm daily and offers a relaxing lounge with coffee, snacks, games, and more!
If you need assistance or want to connect with the USO, Home Front Military Network is here to help! Serving the entire state of Colorado, we help connect service members, veterans, and their families to local resources.
